Finestre e Porte del Mondo

Over the last few years I have become fascinated with windows and doors. One aspect being architecture and building materials, another is their practicality, function and purpose. Both architects, stone masons and other craftsmen leaving their mark, providing us with a variety of individual style.

It is lovely to see how people are taking pride to decorate windows and doors alike, creating harmony in keeping with the rest of the building and offering visual impact, whilst in other cases dilapidation is shown, generating interest by providing texture.

So, why Italian, and not just call this body of work Windows and Doors of the World. Well, I felt that the English title just did not do it justice, as a lot of this type of architecture has been created with the heart, and not the head, craftsmen and women showing off their skills, and the basic purpose of the window and door, which is to provide shelter and security, has been upstaged by inserting love and passion.

So for me, Italian was the most befitting language to use for the title.
